After Treatment - Supportive Periodontal Therapy (SPT)

After your periodontal treatment has been completed, you will be notified to schedule a return appointment for an SPT Visit within a few months. A person susceptible to periodontal disease usually needs to have his or her teeth cleaned thoroughly more frequently than the average dental patient. The time interval between visits will vary from patient to patient.

At each return SPT Visit, in addition to the scaling and polishing, we will examine your bite, the health of the periodontal tissues, and check for any other problems in and around your mouth. One thing we do not routinely do is take x-ray films to check for decay. For this reason, it is essential that you visit your General Dentist regularly as in the past. We encourage you to give your dentist feedback about the treatment experience in our office so that other patients will have a realistic picture of the process.
